Not many people know that Nepal, which is called by many as adventure capital of the world, is a fantastic destination for anglers. Nepal’s major river systems – Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali and Mahakali, all of which drain into the Bay of Bengal through the Ganges, is a thriving habitat for several freshwater fish species. According to a conservative estimate, more than 118 species of fishes are found in Nepal. Himalayan Mahseer is probably the most sought after sport fish in Nepal. It is indigenous to the Indian sub-continent and found in all major rivers of the country. But Mahseers are very difficult to catch. Goonch is an indigenous catfish species in Nepal. It can grow up to 50 kg. Similarly, Nepali rivers are aplenty with different species of trouts and carps.
Fishing in Budhi Gandaki:
Budhi Gandaki River, which flows through central Nepal, is one of the major tributary of the Gandaki River which is also known as Narayani. It drains the eastern parts of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal regions. Fishing in the snow-fed rivers for the Himalayan Mahasheers, trouts, carps and catfish of Nepal is an experience that you will remember for long.
