This day hike will take you to the top of the Champadevi hill – the eastern summit of the south-western rim of the Kathmandu Valley. Situated at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea leave, it is also a pilgrimage site for Hindus as well as Buddhists. The hike offers you an opportunity to explore the countryside in the Village where you can see traditional houses and traditional way of farming as well as experience local house. You can see this all after a drive of less than an hour form the city center of Kathmandu. Isn’t it amazing?
Champadevi is a fantastic destination for day hikes. The journey starts in the morning with a drive to Pharping village on the outskirts of Kathmandu on the way to the famous Dakshinkali Temple. Pharping is famous for its pears. If it happens to be the season, try tasting some pears right after they are plucked. You can see many monasteries in and around Pharping. Leaving the village behind, we gradually make ascent through beautiful pine forests. As most of the walk is along the ridge, you can get view of both Kathmandu Valley and the beautiful countryside. Look out for different species of birds in the lush forest. The trail is stone-paved and easy. A walk of around two hours will take you to the top of the hill. There is a small temple dedicated to goddess Champadevi and a small shelter. On a clear day, you can have an amazing view of snow-capped peaks like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, Gauri Shankar Himal and twin peaks of Dorje Lakpa Himal, among others. We descend gradually through the same route to reach Hattiban Resort for lunch. From there, we drive to Kathmandu.
