Rara Lake is a beautiful destination lying in Karnali Zone in mid-western Nepal. This beautiful place was not accessible to many until few years ago as one could visit their only using aerial route. Difficult geography of the area was making road construction difficult. The place is accessible now as   a newly built road via   Jumla of the Karnali Highway connects this place to the national road    network.  Rara is the   biggest   as well as   deepest fresh water lake in Nepal. Spread over 1,583 hectares at an altitude of 2990 meters, the lake and the surrounding area offers breathtaking sceneries. It is fast emerging as a popular    tourist   destination    in the country. The government    has gazetted   the area as Rara National Park for the preservation of the lake and the surrounding areas.

 

We have two major tour packages for Rara:

Rara Lake Tour via air ( 4 Days)

 

Day 1: Arrival.

 

Welcome to Nepal. Our representative will be at the airport to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.

 

 

Day 2: Fly to Nepalgunj.

 

Today, we take a flight to Nepalgunj – a commercial hub of the mid-western region. The flight takes around an hour. Upon your arrival in the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel.

 

 

Day 3: Fly to Talcha Airport.

 

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be driven to the airport to catch a flight to Talcha    Airport in Mugu district. The flight takes about 40 minutes, offering your breathtaking views of mountains, hills and deep valleys. Upon your arrival in Talcha Airport, a short trek of around two hours will take you to the Rara Lake.

 

 

Day 4: Sightseeing around the lake.

 

 

After breakfast, you will embark on sightseeing of Rara Lake. Carrying packed lunch, we will make a short hike to Murma Top which offers the best view of the lake. Come down and stroll on the banks of the lake.

 

 

Day 5: Walk to Talcha and fly to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu.

 

 

We bid adieu to Rara and start descending toward Talcha airport for our flight to Nepalgunj. Then we take afternoon flight to Kathmandu where our tour ends.

 

 

Day 6: Full day sightseeing.

 

 

Today, we will enjoy sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley.

 

After having breakfast, we will embark on a sightseeing trip in the Kathmandu Valley. We will begin with a drive to Swoyambhunath Stupa — a UNESCO World Heritage site. Popular among foreign tourists as Monkey Temple, thanks to   abundance of     monkeys in the nearby forest,    the main    attraction in    the    temple     complex is the Swoyambhunath Stupa with a lofty white dome and a glittering golden steeple. Ajima and Pratappur temples are the other attractions in the stupa complex. You can also enjoy the view of Kathmandu Valley on a clear day.

Next, we move on to Bouddhanath Stupa. The Bouddhanath Stupa looks similar to the Swoyambhunath Stupa. The only difference is that it sits on multi-layered   mandalas     and is bigger.     Rotate the prayers wheels along with other pilgrims as your circumambulate the stupa. The stupa premises has a peaceful ambience. It is one of the best places in Kathmandu to buy Tibetan jewelries. There are good restaurants around the stupa. Visit one of the restaurants offering view of the stupa for lunch.

After Bouddhanath, we will visit the Pashupatinath Temple premises – also a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the most important pilgrimages for all Hindus, Pashupatinath is abuzz with visitors all the time. A pagoda temple with golden roof which  houses the scared jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva is the major   attraction on the     temple premises. There are numerous temple dedicated   to different gods and goddesses You can watch the grandeur of the temple from a view point across the river. You can, if interested,   also watch    cremation of    dead bodies on the banks of the holy Bagmati River.

Return to the hotel. In the free time, you can explore the alleys of Thamel or the old market areas of Kathmandu.

 

 

Day 7: Departure.

 

After breakfast, our representative will transfer you to the airport for your return flight.

 

 

Rara Lake Tour via Jeep ( 8 Days).

 

 

Day 1: Arrival.

Welcome to Nepal. Our representative will be at the airport to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.

 

 

Day 2: Drive to Surkhet.

 

We start early in the morning as the journey takes around 12 hours. We leave Kathmandu on Prithvi Highway, then take the East-West Highway from Narayanghat – a bustling town in mid-Nepal – and drive westward. The road is in perfect condition. From Kohalpur, we leave the East-West Highway and start driving   northward   toward   Surkhet.

 

 

Day 3: Drive from Surkhet to Kalikot.

 

After some sightseeing in the morning, we take the Karnali Highway and start driving toward Kalikot. The narrow is blacktopped but narrow. We will drive only 80 kilometers today. But as the road is winding and narrow, we go slowly. Upon our arrival in Manma – the  district headquarters of Kalikot, we    check into our hotel and    explore the market place.

 

 

Day 4: Drive from Kalikot to Talcha.

 

As usual, we start our drive early in the morning. The distance to Talcha is only around 70 kilometers. But as the   road is not so good, we go slowly. On the way, you can experience culture and difficult lifestyle of local people.  Karnali Region is one of the least developed areas because the area was in isolation for centuries until Karnali Highway connected it to rest of Nepal some years ago. But sceneries are awesome. You can see beautiful rivers         and rivulets, terraced farmland, bustling market places   and far-flung    settlements.  We stay in a   hotel near   Talcha  airstrip.

 

 

Day 5: Hike to Rara Lake.

 

As the road ends here, we resume hike to Rara Lake after having breakfast at our hotel. The hike takes around three hours. We will reach Rara Lake at around lunchtime. Savor the beauty of this place. You can walk around the pristine lake or enjoy horse ride.

Day 6: Hike to Murma Top.

 

Today we will hike to Murma Top as the place offers splendid   view of the Rara Lake and snowcapped peaks of the region. The hike will take around three hours.  Interact with  shepherds   as they herd    their cattle,    listen to their experience. Marvel at the beauty of the lake from Murma Top. Enjoy packed lunch at the top and descend to the lake.

 

 

Day 7: Drive to Khalanga.

 

After breakfast, we bid adieu to the lake and start descending toward Talcha airport. From there, we take our waiting jeep and start riding toward Khalanga Bazaar – the district headquarters of Jumla. The drive takes roughly around 30 kilometers. Explore the Khalanga Bazaar and visit Chandannath Temple – the most popular deity in the area.

 

 

Day 8: Drive to Surkhet.

 

From Jumla, we start a long drive to Surkhet. The road moves along the banks of the Karnali River, offering your breathtaking sceneries. We will reach Surkhet late in the evening.

 

 

Day 9: Drive to Kathmandu.

 

We explore the market of Surkhet after having breakfast at our hotel. We will visit local attractions and start our long drive to Kathmandu. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, You will be transferred to your hotel.

 

 

Day 10: Sightseeing in Kathmandu.
